LED Hotel Lighting Guide

As a hotel owner, are you considering replacing your current lighting in the hotel rooms with a new lighting solution? Keep on reading this guide and get some helpful advice on how you can design your new lighting solution!

We will give you all the necessary guidance and professional advice that you can use about your considerations on which new lighting solution to choose and how this should be installed.

It is essential to consider various aspects before choosing and installing a new lighting solution. You can, with the advantage, keep the different things covered in mind to get the most out of your new lighting solution – both to the benefit of the guests and your cost budget.

Why is it important for the hotel owner to consider the lighting?

As a hotel owner or designer, you are selling an experience to the guests in the form of a hotel stay. Therefore, it is essential to be aware of how the guests perceive and feel at the hotel, and as the hotel owner, it is your most OK job to give the guests the best possible experience. To provide the guests with a good experience, it is crucial that they feel welcome and at home at the hotel.

To accommodate this ambition of ‘the good hotel stay’ as a hotel owner, you must make sure that there exists the right atmosphere at the hotel, you must make sure that the hotel has the right atmosphere. The ambiance must be pleasant and inviting, and the hotel’s lighting plays a vital role in achieving that ambiance.

Therefore, it is essential to consider lighting as a part of the hotel’s interior decoration because the lighting can support the creation of a friendly atmosphere. Thus, it is not enough only to have the correct interior. If the light is incorrect, even the most professional interior decoration design cannot make the guest feel comfortable.

Lighting has a significant influence on humans’ well-being and mood, so if the light, for example, is dim or too sharp, it is almost impossible to achieve a friendly atmosphere. Therefore, if you as a hotel owner or manager want to optimize your guests’ experience at the hotel, the right lighting is crucial.

Guide for lighting up hotel rooms

If you want to replace the current lighting solution in the hotel rooms with an LED solution, you can divide the rooms into different ‘zones’ with various lighting needs. Thus, this guide is divided into three zones, and in each zone, different aspects must be taken into consideration to achieve the best possible lighting in each area. In other words, it is essential to be aware that you cannot lump all lighting together; instead, you must evaluate the light’s unique qualities, including its color temperature and color rendering. For more information on these two topics, check out below color temperature here and our color rendering index (CRI).

  • Hallway lighting: It is essential to light up the hallway in an open and welcoming way because the hallway is the first thing the guest sees when entering the hotel room. It is always essential to have sufficient light in the hallway, so the guest feels at home. If you want to create a cozy atmosphere, you must take a closer you; you must look at lighting with a high CRI (color rendering index) and a low Kelvin. This means that the lighting must have a good color rendering capacity, and about this, you can consider installing a warm white LED light on approximately CRI 90. Furthermore, the color temperature must be warm and friendly, and this means that it must have a Kelvin of 2700-3000. A concrete LED model, which you can install in the hallway with advantage, is our SLIM spotlight series for installation in the ceiling.
  • Room lighting: It is essential to have good lighting in the room because it is here that the guests spend most of their stay in the hotel room; room lighting, floor lamps, and spotlights if often used. Also, it is essential to install lighting with a high CRI and a low Kelvin in the room, as mentioned above. Our downlight series MINI hotel downlight can be used with an advantage as room lighting.
  • Bathroom lighting: In the bathroom, there is another climate than in the rest of the hotel room, which is essential to remember. Thus, it is possible to use lighting with different color temperatures – some prefer a light with 4000K in the bathroom, while others prefer warmer lighting at 3000K. If you want a minimalistic and clean look in the bathroom, you can, with the advantage, install slightly colder lighting with a Kelvin on 4000K. In the bathroom, downlighting resistance to dampness and water is often used.

Color Rendering Index (CRI)

To give some perspective on CRI, natural daylight has a CRI of 100%. This means that color is represented in its most accurate form. The CRI can’t reach 100% when lighting is artificial. However, it is still possible to achieve a very high CRI when illuminating objects inside the luxury, thanks to high-quality products like those at EYBO.

Our lighting systems have the highest CRI you can find, so the colors in your luxury will be almost as accurate as they would be in natural daylight.

We can show you the difference between CRI 80 and CRI 95 in 3000K and 4000K, so you can quickly identify and choose the CRI for your project.

The benefits of proper CRI can bring you the following:

  • High-quality true color reproduction
  • Uniform, consistent super lights
  • Flexibility in design optimization

Dimming Options

Another critical aspect of hotel lighting is dimming. Since there are so many overlay options available,
Depending on how different guests perceive the illuminance and color temperature of lights, you need to choose the right technology for your space based on the following factors:

  • Bedside lighting
  • Night lighting
  • Desk lighting

In addition, if conditions permit, you can consider lamps that can adjust the color temperature.

DALI & C-Bus Dimming System

The DALI & C-Bus Dimming System is a flexible option often installed in enormous hotels. This operates through a centralized computer system and has an on and off function; you can control color change between cool and warm whites of between 3000K and 5000K and group control dimming. Keep in mind that this system is expensive to purchase and install, plus it takes a lot of time to program the functions of each light.

WiFi Dimming

WiFi dimming is the latest and most advanced technology in lighting system control. It is very easy to set up and your lighting fixtures connect to your central WiFi network. You are able to control the lighting through an app on your smartphone or tablet, and it is more economical than other dimming solutions.

Manual Wall Dimming

Manual wall dimming lets you control your lighting levels through a wall dimmer. With a single-circuit system, you’ll be able to dim all of your lights simultaneously. If you have a three-circuit system, you’ll be able to control more than three separate groups of lights.
